Asia Minigolf Championships 13.-15. November 2008 in Chiang Mai (Thailand)

The fifth edition of the Asia Minigolf Championships took place 13-15 November 2008 in Chiang Mai (Thailand). 50 participants (11 youth players, 13 women and 26 men) from 9 different countries competed in the event. This is the largest event so far and underlines the growth in the Asian region and the interest in the competition.

The participating countries were Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, China, Iran, Germany, Switzerland, Finland and Belgium. First time players from China und Iran participated in the event. Both countries are candidate members of WMF.

The event took place in a beautiful Minigolf Garden Resort established by André and Som Savaré. The competition took place on 18 original concrete lanes. More details are available at www.minigolfgardenresort.com

Two rankings were drawn up: the Asia Minigolf Championships (for the Asian members Japan, Taiwan and Thailand) and the Open Asia Minigolf Championships (for all participants).

During the event a meeting of the Asia Minigolf Federation (AMF) was organized to discuss the further development of the continental federation. China and Iran have been accepted as new members provided that they fulfil the conditions to become a member of WMF and are accepted by the latter organization. It has also been discussed to revise the current Statutes, to elect an Executive Committee composed of permanent Board members. The next championships will take place 2010 in Japan and 2012 in China.
